Asphalt Contractor Nassau County

Long Island's Dependable Asphalt Contractor

Asphalt remains one of the most practical and cost-effective driveway surfaces for Long Island homeowners — and when it’s properly installed on a correctly prepared base, a quality asphalt driveway can deliver fifteen to twenty-five years of reliable service. The problem is that not all asphalt work is done with the same attention to base preparation and mix quality. Melfi Masonry brings the same standard of preparation and quality control to asphalt paving that we bring to every other masonry service — because the base is everything, regardless of what surface goes on top.

We install new asphalt driveways, resurface existing driveways that are past their sealing prime, repair potholes and settled areas, and install asphalt parking areas for residential and light commercial properties throughout Nassau and Suffolk County. Every new installation begins with proper excavation and a compacted gravel base — the step that determines whether an asphalt driveway lasts a decade or starts crumbling after a few winters. We use commercial-grade hot-mix asphalt, properly compacted with roller equipment, not hand-tamped sections that leave a wavy, uneven surface.

We also pair asphalt driveways with masonry features that elevate the overall look and define the property entrance. A bluestone or brick apron at the entrance — where the driveway meets the street — dramatically improves the curb appeal of an asphalt driveway at relatively modest cost. Cobblestone or paver borders along the edges of an asphalt driveway contain the material, prevent edge crumbling, and give the driveway a finished, polished look. These masonry-asphalt combinations are extremely popular throughout Nassau County and are something Melfi Masonry is uniquely positioned to deliver as both a masonry and paving contractor.

Whether you need a new asphalt driveway from the ground up, a resurfacing over a structurally sound base, or a combination asphalt and masonry entrance design, Melfi Masonry delivers the quality and durability Long Island properties demand. COMMON QUESTIONS

Asphalt Installation FAQs

A properly installed asphalt driveway — on a correctly compacted gravel base, using commercial-grade hot-mix, with regular seal coating every three to five years — can last twenty to twenty-five years on Long Island. Driveways installed on inadequate bases, or left unsealed, typically show significant deterioration within five to ten years. Base preparation is the single biggest factor in asphalt longevity.
New asphalt can typically handle light vehicle traffic after 24–48 hours in moderate temperatures. In very hot weather, we recommend waiting longer as asphalt takes longer to set in heat. For the first season, we advise avoiding parking in the same spot for extended periods and keeping heavy vehicles like RVs off the surface — asphalt continues to cure and harden over several months.

Yes — this is one of our most popular combination projects on Long Island. Adding a masonry apron at the street entrance, or masonry borders along the driveway edges, dramatically improves the curb appeal and longevity of an asphalt driveway. We cut back the existing asphalt at the apron area, prepare the base, and install the masonry feature so it integrates seamlessly with the asphalt surface.
