Concrete Contractor Nassau County
Long Island's Reliable Concrete Contractor
Concrete is the workhorse of the construction world — and when it’s poured and finished correctly, it’s one of the most durable, low-maintenance surfaces available. When it’s poured improperly, it’s a source of endless frustration: cracking, heaving, scaling, and staining within just a few seasons. As a trusted concrete contractor serving Nassau County homeowners and businesses for over 35 years, Melfi Masonry brings the same exacting standards to concrete as we do to our masonry work. We bring the same exacting standards to concrete as we do to our masonry work — because cutting corners in formwork, mix design, or curing always shows up eventually.
We install concrete driveways, walkways, patios, stoops, steps, curbing, and structural slabs throughout Nassau County and Long Island. Every pour begins with proper site preparation — adequate excavation, compacted gravel sub-base, and correct formwork set to the right grade and slope. We use the appropriate mix for each application and environment, and we always account for Long Island’s freeze-thaw conditions when specifying mix design, thickness, and reinforcement.
Concrete repair is another significant part of our work. Spalling, cracking, and surface scaling are common on older concrete around Long Island homes — particularly on surfaces that were poured too thin, without proper reinforcement, or with a mix that wasn’t suited for the climate. We assess concrete damage honestly: some situations call for resurfacing, others require saw-cutting and replacing sections, and some failing slabs are better replaced in full. We’ll tell you which is which and why.
We also pour foundations and structural slabs in conjunction with our masonry projects — including footings for retaining walls, outdoor fireplaces, columns, and steps. A masonry structure is only as good as the concrete footing it sits on, and this is an area where we never compromise on depth, reinforcement, or mix specification. Our clients throughout Nassau and Suffolk County rely on us to get the foundation right the first time, because fixing it later is always far more expensive.
Whether you need a new concrete driveway, a decorative stamped patio, a repaired walkway, or structural footings for a masonry project, Melfi Masonry delivers the quality and durability that Long Island homes demand. COMMON QUESTIONS
Concrete Installation FAQs
How long do I need to stay off new concrete?
We recommend keeping foot traffic off fresh concrete for at least 24–48 hours, and vehicle traffic for a minimum of 7 days. Full cure strength is reached at 28 days. During curing, protecting the surface from freezing temperatures is critical — we will advise you on any precautions needed based on the weather forecast at the time of your pour.
Can you repair cracked concrete, or does it need to be replaced?
It depends on the nature and cause of the cracking. Hairline cracks from normal shrinkage can often be sealed effectively. Larger cracks caused by settlement or frost heave may indicate a sub-base problem that surface repair won’t fix. We assess the cause of cracking before recommending a solution — if a repair won’t hold, we’ll tell you so rather than sell you a fix that fails in a season.
Do you also pour concrete foundations for masonry structures?
Yes — proper concrete footings are part of virtually every masonry project we build. Retaining walls, outdoor fireplaces, entrance pillars, and steps all require correctly sized and reinforced concrete footings poured below Long Island’s frost line. We handle this footing work as part of the overall masonry project scope.
