Masonry Steps Nassau County

Long Island's Premier Masonry Steps Contractor

Front steps are the most-used masonry feature on any Long Island home — and the first thing a visitor touches when they arrive. When steps start to crack, settle, or separate from the foundation, they become both a safety hazard and a curb appeal problem. Melfi Masonry has been designing and building custom masonry steps, stoops, and entryways across Nassau County and Long Island for over 35 years. Dominic Melfi brings the same Italian-trained precision to a set of front steps as he does to a grand estate driveway — because the details matter regardless of the size of the project.

We build steps in natural bluestone, traditional brick, concrete pavers, and natural stone veneer — each material selected to complement your home’s architecture and withstand Long Island’s freeze-thaw climate. Bluestone treads on brick risers are a classic combination for colonial and cape-style homes throughout Nassau County. Full bluestone steps with a natural cleft finish offer an elegant, timeless look that ages beautifully. Paver steps with matching paver walkways create a unified, seamless entry from the street to the front door.

Every set of steps we build is engineered from the ground up. Proper footing depth — below Long Island’s frost line — is the single most important factor in step longevity. Steps poured on an inadequate base will heave, crack, and separate from the house within a few winters. We excavate to the correct depth, pour reinforced concrete footings, and build the step structure on a solid, stable foundation before a single tread is set. Riser height and tread depth are set to code and designed for comfortable, safe use every day.

We also repair and rebuild existing steps that have settled, cracked, or deteriorated. In many cases, individual treads can be reset or replaced without rebuilding the entire structure. In others — particularly where the underlying footing has failed — a full rebuild is the only permanent solution. We assess your steps honestly and tell you which approach makes sense before any work begins.

Whether you need a single step reset, a full front stoop replacement, or a grand multi-level entryway with matching walkway and landing, Melfi Masonry delivers the craftsmanship and durability that Long Island homes deserve. COMMON QUESTIONS

Steps Installation FAQs

The best material depends on the look of your home and how the steps will be used. Common options include brick, concrete, bluestone, natural stone, and pavers. On Long Island, it’s important to choose materials that can handle freeze-thaw conditions and daily wear while still complementing the style of your property.
Properly built masonry steps can last for decades. The key is solid construction, a properly prepared base, and careful attention to drainage. When steps are installed correctly, they provide long-term durability, safety, and curb appeal.
Steps usually crack or shift because of poor base preparation, water infiltration, or movement caused by Long Island’s freeze-thaw cycles. That’s why proper excavation, base compaction, and drainage are so important. A well-built foundation helps keep masonry steps stable and looking their best.
Yes. Masonry steps can be designed to match the architecture and style of your home using different materials, colors, shapes, and finishes. Whether you want a classic brick entry, bluestone treads, or a more custom stone look, the design can be tailored to fit your property.
